Once you’ve had a dental crown installed into your mouth, you should monitor the fit and feel of the crown to make sure that it’s performing suitably. Here are some things to monitor and pieces of advice you can follow to make sure that your dental health is at its peak.
Unless we’ve performed a root canal on your tooth, it will still be heat-sensitive since it contains nerves; don’t worry if you detect minor sensitivity when munching your next cold snack. If you sense significant heat-sensitivity on that tooth after two weeks, please let us know.
From time to time the crown can be placed too high, so if you notice any discomfort when biting down, please contact us to evaluate whether the crown should be fine-tuned. This can be done relatively rapidly, and it usually does not involve redoing the crown.
While crowns do assist your overall health, they do not foil bacterial infections or gum disease. You’ll still need to brush two times a day and floss once daily to mitigate the risk of tooth decay and gum disease — and this will also guard your chompers from needing any additional crowns!
