If You’re Missing a Back Molar, It Can Be Restored by a Dental Implant

Welcome to Jordan Landing Smiles in West Jordan, UT, your family dentist!

The molars in the back of your mouth are large and durable and can be called upon to do a significant amount of chewing and grinding. When a molar is lost, the corresponding tooth in your bite also becomes ineffective. In the past, if you lost a back molar, it could not be restored by a dental bridge because there was no other tooth in the back of your mouth to anchor the other end of the appliance. Now, your dentist, Dr. Powell, can restore a back tooth with a dental implant in West Jordan, UT.

The implant can be inserted into your jaw during a single outpatient appointment where you will need to be deeply sedated. We will make a small incision in the gums to gain direct access the underlying bone. We will then make a narrow channel in the bone and will screw a titanium abutment into place. Titanium is known to be biologically safe and will eventually fuse with natural bone tissues to provide a strong anchor for an eventual dental crown.

Once the titanium abutment has fully fused with the surrounding bone tissues, Dr. Powell can go install a crown onto the abutment. CEREC one-visit restorations are created from high-quality porcelain that our doctor matches to your natural tooth color.

If you have recently lost a molar, you should call West Jordan Dental Office to see if you’re a good candidate for a dental implant.
